Module 3 Tasks contd

Standards Task (optional)

Tonight i worked through the information in the WWW Standards area. I got a good understanding of writing for the web and how to best maximise this medium for the readers.

Readers generally scan the website, so it is really important to set up the website or page correctly to hook the reader.

Here are my 5 important rules for writing online:

  1. Utilise scannable text. This can be done using bullets, shot paragraphs and bold keywords.
  2. Good micro content- This includes writing in plain language, clearly explaining in headings what the site or article is about and making the first words important information carrying words.
  3. Start of with your best or important information at the top. Most readers decide within a few seconds whether they want to read a site.
  4. Compose good confirmation, customer service & transactional emails to avoid being treated as spam.
  5. Consistant navigation and simple designs.
There are some of the main ones that i think are important, however there are many other ideas and concepts that also can be used to optimise a site for the reader.
